Updated 20 October 2026
This policy explains how Marine Import Oy processes personal data on the marineimport.fi website and in its dealings with business customers, partners and people who contact us. The processing of Captains Shop online store customers' data is described in the Captains Shop privacy policy (in Finnish).

5. Use of artificial intelligence
We use an AI assistant to help process incoming messages and quote requests, for example to prepare draft replies and quotes. The AI does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, and a person reviews replies before they are sent. You can always ask for your matter to be handled by a person.
6. Disclosures and recipients
We do not sell personal data. We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf: website hosting, email and office software, accounting and warehouse systems, spam protection and AI services. We disclose data to authorities only when required by law. In connection with a business transfer, data may be transferred to a new owner.
7. Transfers outside the EU and EEA
We process data mainly within the EU and EEA. Some service providers, such as Google, Cloudflare and Anthropic, may also process data in the United States or elsewhere outside the EU. Such transfers rely on European Commission adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
8. Retention
- quote requests and enquiries that do not lead to a customer relationship: up to 24 months
- customer and partner relationship data: for the duration of the relationship and as necessary thereafter
- accounting records: for the period required by law, at least 6 years from the end of the financial year
9. Cookies
The website uses only cookies that are strictly necessary for it to function, such as cookies for remembering your language choice and for spam protection. We do not use analytics or marketing cookies on this website.
10. Security
The website uses an encrypted connection. Access to data is restricted with personal credentials to those who need it in their work. Form attachments are not stored on the website; they are forwarded to our sales team by email and deleted from the server immediately.
11. Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to request its rectification or erasure, to restrict its processing, to object to processing and to receive your data for transfer to another system. Please send your request to seppa@marineimport.fi. We will respond within one month and may ask you to verify your identity.
If you believe your data is processed unlawfully, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman in Finland (tietosuoja.fi) or with the supervisory authority in your country of residence.
12. Changes
We update this policy when our operations or the law change. The current version is always available on this page. In case of any discrepancy, the Finnish version prevails.
