MARLOW IN BRIEF

Rope made on the same site since 1807

Marlow makes rope in Hailsham in the south of England, on the same site where rope has been made since 1807. The factory was one of the first in the world to make rope from synthetic fibres, sold to sailors under the Marlow name.

Today the Marlow range runs from Dyneema racing ropes to polyester cruising ropes and mooring lines. The manufacturer’s datasheets give the breaking load of every rope, so the right line can be chosen by calculation.

Marine Import Oy is the official Marlow distributor in Finland. We keep the most common ropes and diameters in stock in Luvia, and stock items are dispatched within 1–3 working days. We also deliver to business customers in the Baltics, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland.

PRODUCT RANGE

Marlow rope groups

Choose a rope by use, stretch and load. Individual ropes, diameters and colours are listed in our Captains Shop online store (in Finnish).

Dyneema ropes

Excel ropes have a Dyneema core and a hard-wearing cover. They stretch very little, so the sail keeps its shape as the wind builds.

  • Excel Pro and Excel Racing for halyards and sheets
  • Excel Taper: tapered tail for lighter handling
  • Excel Marstron floats

Bare Dyneema

D12 78 is a 12-strand single braid of Dyneema SK78. It is light, strong and easy to splice, ideal for strops, lashings and lightweight halyards.

  • Diameters 3–6 mm
  • Easy to splice
  • Low stretch

Polyester ropes

Marlowbraid and Mattbraid are versatile polyester ropes for running rigging. They are pleasant in the hand, resist UV and abrasion and grip well on winches.

  • Marlowbraid 6–14 mm, also solid colour
  • Mattbraid 8–14 mm, matt finish
  • 8 Plait Matt and Pre-Stretched for control lines

Mooring lines

Blue Ocean Dockline is a stretchy mooring line that absorbs snatch loads from waves and spares the boat’s cleats and fittings.

  • Diameters 12–16 mm
  • Soft and easy to handle
  • Also suited to marinas and yards

Anchor rodes

Multiplait is a plaited nylon anchor line. Nylon stretches, so it absorbs the shock loads as the boat swings at anchor.

  • Diameters 12–24 mm
  • Does not kink or hockle
  • Easy to splice to chain

Small cords and specialist lines

Vectran and Dyneema cords for control lines, trimming systems and dinghy rigging that do not stretch under load.

  • V12 Vectran and Excel Vectran
  • Formuline and 8 Plait Standard
  • Diameters from 1.5 mm

Shock cord and accessories

The range also includes shock cord, guardrail netting and whipping twine for finishing rope ends.

CHOOSING A ROPE

The right rope in the right place

For halyards, low stretch matters most so the sail holds its shape. Sheets must be comfortable in the hand and grip well on winches and clutches.

Mooring and anchor lines, in contrast, need to stretch so that wave loads do not strain the boat. Choose the diameter to suit your blocks, clutches and winches.
