Silva is a Swedish maker of outdoor and navigation equipment. The company’s story began in 1933, when the Kjellström brothers and Gunnar Tillander developed the world’s first liquid-filled compass.
Silva boat compasses use a clear, scratch-resistant acrylic bowl, a sapphire jewel bearing and a hardened steel pivot. Gimballed suspension and a well-damped card keep the reading steady in a seaway. The range covers small open boats, fast powerboats, sailing yachts and large motor yachts.

Silva boat compasses share the same core construction: a clear acrylic bowl, a sapphire jewel bearing and a hardened steel pivot. Low friction lets the card move quickly and accurately, while damping keeps it calm.
Silva gives a five-year warranty on compasses and headlamps against defects in materials and workmanship. Other Silva products carry a two-year warranty. According to Silva, the Eterna marine binoculars carry a five-year warranty.

It depends on the boat type, the mounting position and how much the boat heels. The 70 and 85 series suit small and fast boats, the 100P, 100B/H and 102B/H suit sailing boats, and the 125 series suits large yachts. The compass table on this page is a good starting point, and we are happy to advise.
Engines, speakers and other electrical equipment can cause compass deviation. A compensator lets you adjust the deviation out so the compass shows the correct heading. Some models include one as standard; for others it is an option.
