RULE IN BRIEF

More than 50 years of bilge pumps

Rule has built electric submersible bilge pumps for more than 50 years, and its pumps are found in boats of every size, from rowing boats to workboats. Rule is part of Xylem, as is Jabsco.

In the latest generation of Rule pumps the impeller is shaped to deliver more flow for the same current draw. The pumps have built-in thermal protection, a valve that reduces backflow, hidden air vents that prevent air locking and a threaded discharge port.

Marine Import Oy is the official Rule distributor in Finland. We keep the most common pumps, switches and accessories in stock in Luvia, and stock items are dispatched within 1–3 working days. We also deliver to business customers in the Baltics, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland.

PRODUCT RANGE

Rule product groups

The Rule model number gives the rated flow in US gallons per hour: a Rule 1100, for example, delivers about 69 litres per minute. Individual models and availability are listed in our Captains Shop online store (in Finnish).

Submersible bilge pumps

The classic Rule pump sits at the bottom of the bilge and is started from a switch, a control panel or a separate float switch.

  • Sizes 360, 500, 800, 1100, 1500 and 2000
  • Rated flow about 23–126 l/min
  • Snap-off strainer base for cleaning

Automatic bilge pumps

In the automatic models the switch is built into the pump. The pump runs briefly about every 2.5 minutes and senses from the motor load whether there is water in the housing.

  • No separate float switch needed
  • Two positive wires: automatic and manual
  • Sizes 500, 800 and 1100

RuleMate

RuleMate senses the water level electronically with no moving parts. The pump starts when water reaches the sensor and stops when the bilge is empty.

  • Protects the battery against dry running and air locks
  • Test it by holding a finger on the Pumpcheck point
  • Sizes 500–2000

LoPro low-profile pumps

LoPro 900 fits shallow, tight bilges. It can be installed upright or on its side, and the discharge rotates through 180 degrees.

  • About 56 l/min
  • Straight and angled adapters for different hose sizes
  • LoPro 900S: automatic, selectable start level

Float switches

A separate float switch makes a standard bilge pump automatic. Choose the switch by the pump’s current and the boat’s voltage.

  • Rule-A-Matic and Rule-A-Matic Plus
  • Super Switch and Eco Switch
  • 12 V and 24 V

Control panels and alarms

A waterproof control panel selects automatic, off or manual operation, and a light shows when the pump is running. A high water alarm warns if water keeps rising despite the pump.

  • Panels for 12 V and 24 V
  • High water alarm for enclosed cabins
  • Bases, fittings and replacement strainers

Livewell and baitwell pumps

Livewell pumps circulate and aerate water in fish and bait tanks. The pump is mounted on a through-hull fitting.

  • Straight and angled models
  • A separate strainer keeps debris out of the tank

SIZING

Real flow is always lower than rated flow

The rated flow in the model number is measured with no head. On board, the pump lifts water through the hose to the through-hull, and flow falls the higher the water has to rise.

Long hoses, bends, rough hose walls, check valves and low voltage all reduce flow further. Choose a pump whose flow is still enough at your boat’s real lift height.

Manufacturer’s measured values for standard Rule submersible pumps. On board, flow also depends on the hose and voltage.

CERTIFICATIONS

Certified as bilge pumps and ignition protected

Rule bilge pumps are certified to ISO 8849 for electric bilge pumps and ISO 8846 for ignition protection. An ignition-protected pump will not ignite fuel vapour, so it is suitable for the bilge of petrol-powered boats.

The pumps also follow the ABYC recommendations for boat electrical systems. On request we provide model-specific data for procurement or inspection.

  • ISO 8849 – electrically operated bilge pumps
  • ISO 8846 – ignition protection of electrical devices on small craft
  • ISO 10133 – extra-low-voltage DC installations
  • CE marking for the EU market
  • Built to ABYC recommendations

FAQ

Questions about Rule

Who is the Rule distributor in Finland?

Marine Import Oy is the official Rule distributor in Finland. Our warehouse is in Luvia, Eurajoki, and consumers can buy Rule pumps from our Captains Shop online store.

What does the Rule model number mean?

It is the pump’s rated flow in US gallons per hour. A Rule 500 delivers about 31 l/min and a Rule 2000 about 126 l/min with no head.

Automatic pump or a separate float switch?

Automatic Rule pumps and RuleMate have the switch built in, so no separate switch is needed. A standard pump becomes automatic with a Rule-A-Matic or Super Switch.

Can a Rule bilge pump be used in a petrol-powered boat?

Yes. Rule bilge pumps are ignition protected to ISO 8846, so they will not ignite fuel vapour.

Do you deliver Rule products outside Finland?

Yes. We deliver to business customers in the Baltics, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland. Send us the products and quantities and we will quote delivery.
